Collection: Trim Tabs

Getting the bow down and the hull running level improves fuel economy, visibility, and ride comfort. The two brands here take different routes to that result. Davis Instruments' Doel-Fin is a hydrofoil that mounts on the anti-cavitation plate of an outboard or outdrive, generating lift at speed with no moving parts and no electrical connection. Lectrotab's Smart Tab series uses spring-loaded tabs that mount on the transom and self-adjust as speed changes, requiring no switches, no wiring, and no hydraulic lines.

Choosing the right Smart Tab means matching three variables: boat length, engine horsepower, and for larger hulls, total weight. The standard line starts at 7x8 inch tabs for 10 to 12 foot boats on 20 to 25 HP and scales up to 12x9 inch tabs for 18 to 22 foot hulls on 150 to 240 HP. The Smart Tabs II Series handles 23 to 30 foot boats up to 8,500 pounds. The SX composite models cover similar length and power ranges and add a black finish. Confirm your transom material and configuration before ordering, as mounting requirements vary.
