Collection: Rope & Chain

Anchor rodes sold here combine chain and nylon rope from Lewmar, Maxwell, and Quick, and the differences between them matter more than they might first appear. Lewmar rodes use Grade 4 chain, which is harder and stronger than standard proof-coil, and most come pre-fitted with a shackle or swivel so the rode is ready to deploy. Maxwell rodes pair galvanized chain with their Nylon Brait construction, a braided rope that lays flat on a drum and resists hockles better than twisted nylon. Chain lengths across the range run from 15 to 30 feet, and rope from 150 to 300 feet, with diameters spanning 1/2 inch to 5/8 inch.

Before buying, confirm that the chain size matches your windlass gypsy, since a 5/16 inch chain will not seat correctly in a gypsy sized for 3/8 inch. Rope diameter also needs to match your windlass capstan if you run a rope-and-chain model. Boats anchoring in deeper water or in areas with strong current benefit from a longer rope section, while more chain improves holding weight and abrasion resistance on rocky bottoms.
