Collection: Chocks
Chocks guide and protect dock lines, anchor rodes, and mooring lines as they pass over the rail, preventing chafe against the hull and keeping lines tracking cleanly under load. The main variables to sort out before buying are type, size, and material. Straight chocks from Whitecap suit midship or stern line runs, while Skene-style bow chocks, available from Whitecap, Perko, and Sea-Dog, use their outward-flaring horns to hold a bow line at the correct angle through a range of tide and load conditions. Bow chocks are sold in pairs because you mount one to each side.
Size matters on two fronts: the fitting must match the line diameter it will carry (the Skene chocks in this range specify line sizes from 1/2" to 3/4"), and the base dimensions need to suit your available deck space and bolt pattern. For material, stainless steel holds up better in saltwater and heavy weather, while chrome plated zinc and chrome plated brass options from Perko and Whitecap work well in freshwater or calmer coastal use where budget is a factor.
